Kadence Sparrow wasn’t born a devil’s child-she was turned into one. Now, she’s hiding from the truth, and running for her life.
For years, Kade’s true nature has lurked behind an illusion, so when her dad gets another job transfer, she knows the drill: no close friends, no boyfriends, and most importantly: don’t expose what she is. Ever. Keeping secrets is easy. Lies are second nature. So is the loneliness and the fear, but when the Shadows attack and Kade meets Cole Spires, she could expose everything she’s trying to hide.
As one of the Celestial Children, Cole lives by an oath: defend the Ward, protect the Primordial race, guard the gateways, and stick to his own. Everything else is a distraction, and besides, he’s lost enough. Cole’s job is clear, and no one his age does it better. So, when he meets Kade in a club downtown, he assumes she just wants his attention. Most girls do, but Cole soon realizes … Kade isn’t like most girls.
The children of heaven and hell are living among us, fighting an age-old war. And falling for someone from the opposition is not an option. But a chance encounter between Kade and Cole will blur the rules as Kade’s journey to keep her truth hidden catapults them together and into a web of lies, forcing her to not only face the demon inside her but to answer the hardest question of all.
Which is thicker blood or water?
A special thanks to the author and publisher for the opportunity to read this eBook.
I tried reading this book a few months ago and gave up but this time, I was determined to read it and I am so glad I persevered.
I have read this author’s previous series and so that more than anything motivated me to try this one out.
Kadence was turned into a devil’s child when she was very young and has spent all her life running from the shadows that are constantly chasing her. No one knows her secret about what she really is, she even has her rules; no close friends or boyfriends. One night when she is out partying with some new school friends she bumps into Cole. Cole is an alpha and one of the celestial children whose duty is to protect the primordial race and more importantly stick to his own.
But for some reason, he cannot seem to stay away from Kadence and this brings some friction among the rival brother-hood. But as the shadows are closing in on Kadence, Cole starts to uncover some hidden truths which will change his view of the world he has known all his life.
What did I think? – This was actually an amazingly good story. As usual this author knows how to create stories with an element of originality, kinda like her Fire Born series ( Which you should absolutely check out)
The opening of the book was a bit cryptic but as I read on I started to like the characters. Cole came across as very arrogant and a bit full of himself but even that did not stop me from falling head over heels for him. I liked Kadence as well, she was strong, fearless surprisingly a pleasure to read. Although there were moments where I just needed her to be silent so as not to ruin the likeness I had for her.
The author gave a lot of background to the story which I really enjoyed as it didn’t feel like information overload.
The romance in the book was just perfect, it actually had me swooning and smiling that goofy kinda smile. In terms of the plot, I have to give it up to the author for originality and she always does with her books. I like where the book ended (as long as it’s not a cliffhanger). I am keen to see how the story will develop in the series and the other characters that will be added to the story.
