Democratic presidential candidates say Northam should resign

Now that same quality may be contributing to what is looking more and more like a spectacular career-ending disaster.

Gov. Ralph Northam clung to office Sunday amid almost unanimous calls from his own party to resign over a racist photo in his 1984 medical school yearbook, going silent after a freakish 24 hours in which he first admitted he was in the picture, then denied it. In the hours since I made my statement yesterday, I reflected with my family and classmates from the time and affirmed my conclusion that I am not the person in that photo. And at one point, he seemed as if he might do the moonwalk for reporters before his wife intervened to tell him no.

Northam did admit to once darkening his face with "a little shoe polish" to resemble Michael Jackson during a 1984 dance contest - the same year as the yearbook photo.

But The Post reported that two other sources from Big League Politics said the source was a former medical school classmate - or classmates - who grew enraged by an earlier controversy involving Northam's comments on abortion.

"He really should not have had that press conference".

Northam is in an nearly unsustainable position with three years left in his term.

Local health officials urge people to get measles vaccine
It's from 1986, when some in the in the United Kingdom weren't immunizing their children, but it's just as relevant today. As a measles outbreak rages in Clark County, health care professionals advise a simple solution: Get vaccinated.

CNN said classmates had told Northam that some yearbook photos were mixed up. "I believe in second chances", Moran said on ABC's "This Week". In another sign Monday of the challenges he could face if he tries to stay in office, Katherine Rowe, president of the College of William & Mary, cancelled an appearance by Northam at an event this Friday because his presence would "fundamentally disrupt the sense of campus unity we aspire to".

Many prominent politicians have called for his resignation.

Both of Virginia's U.S. senators, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, joined the dean of Virginia's congressional delegation, Representative Bobby Scott, in saying they no longer believe Mr Northam can serve effectively. He also volunteered as medical director of a children's hospice, caring for dying youngsters and their families. "He knew this picture was there, and he could've come clean and talked to African-Americans that he's close to decades ago". Tim Kaine, a fellow Democrat, joked that a "supercomputer" couldn't have come up with a better resume. It was cringeworthy to hear him talk about how "this has been a tremendous learning experience" and how "I have a lot of African-American friends" and how "I've had as much exposure to people of color as anybody".

MCCAMMON: This is a place where Northam would normally find allies.

"I winced when I saw that", former Gov. Terry McAuliffe said on CNN.

Other prominent Democrats - including 2020 presidential candidates Senator Kamala Harris, Senator Cory Booker, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Julian Castro, a former top USA housing official - have been calling on Northam to resign since Friday.

Hazard confident Chelsea can spring another surprise against Manchester City
The City match is the first of a hard run, which includes the February 24 Carabao Cup final against the same opponents. Hazard added: "He's a great striker".

"I was at the Halloween party the governor went to and I know what he was wearing exactly", he said, adding that Northam was dressed as an attorney.

On Sunday, delegate Lamont Bagby, who leads the caucus, declined to discuss on ABC whether impeachment proceedings would be pursued against Northam if he doesn't quit.

During a radio interview, he described a hypothetical situation where an infant who is severely deformed or unable to survive after birth would be resuscitated "if that's what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue" between the doctor and mother.

Both the Republican and Democratic party offices in Virginia also called for Northam to resign.

In Norfolk, Melissa Brooks was adamant that Northam should resign. "We've had a terrible history in Virginia".

With each passing day that Northam remains in office, his public perception deteriorates as he appears increasingly stubborn, insolent and unapologetic. He has lost the support of virtually all of the state's Democratic establishment.
