Apex Legends tops 10 million players, one million concurrent

The WWII shooter sold 7.3 million units during Q3, around 1 million less than EA had initially anticipated, and Wilson has lamented the fact that development changes pushed its launch into a more hard window. After coming up short, EA's CEO Andrew Wilson called it a "difficult quarter".

Apex Legends didn't lack for word-of-mouth buzz on its opening day, with EA Games' entry into the battle royale fray scoring a huge early success as gamers logged on by the literal millions.

Apex Legends was inspired by other wildly popular battle royale games like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds where players drop down onto an island where the playable area gets smaller and smaller as people fight to be the last survivors.

According to reviews, Apex Legends has clearly worked on doing better than Fortnite in some key areas including gameplay and interaction between players.

During the call, Mike Ng from Goldman Sachs asked about the capacity if Respawn to launch three games in one year given we just had Apex Legends, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is already confirmed to be shipping later this year, and there's this "premium" Titanfall game that we've yet to hear about. It's still set in the same universe, but it's not Titanfall 3.
