Amazon's Jeff Bezos accuses National Enquirer publisher of extortion and blackmail

The National Enquirer threatened to publish Jeff Bezos' dick pics if he didn't rein in his personal investigator, and in response the Amazon CEO posted about it on Medium.

"Of course I don't want personal photos published, but I also won't participate in their well-known practice of blackmail, political favours, political attacks and corruption", Mr Bezos wrote of AMI, explaining why he had made a decision to speak out.

Another email, apparently from AMI chief legal counsel Jon Fine, asks Mr Bezos and Mr de Becker to publicly say that they have no evidence that the Enquirer's story "was politically motivated or influenced by political forces, and an agreement that they will cease referring to such a possibility", in exchange for the media company not publishing further text messages and images.

Bezos says the Enquirer's parent company tried to get him to agree to a deal for the tabloid not to publish the explicit photos.

"Of course I don't want personal photos published, but I also won't participate in their well-known practice of blackmail, political favours, political attacks and corruption", Bezos wrote.

Bezos' letter to the media company was published Thursday on Medium.com.

For dramatic purposes, it can't end any other way except with Bezos producing evidence that Trump himself put the Enquirer up to digging up dirt on him, as revenge for the Washington Post's negative coverage of POTUS.

The alleged emails show the outlet threatening to release a series of texts and photos he sent to his current girlfriend Lauren Sanchez while still married to MacKenzie Bezos.

The Washington Post has published many articles critical of the president.

In one e-mail that Mr Bezos disclosed, Mr Howard wrote that The Enquirer had obtained photos of Mr Bezos and Ms Sanchez as part of its "news-gathering".

Other photos described in the email include half-dressed selfies of Bezos in a variety of situations, and photos of his new partner Lauren Sanchez that Howard described as "revealing her cleavage".

The AMI lawyers said Pecker was extremely angry when he heard of the investigation.

That admission was part of a deal between AMI and federal prosecutors, who agreed to not pursue charges against the company for secretly assisting Trump's campaign by paying $150,000 U.S. to a Playboy model for the rights to her story about an alleged affair with the then-candidate.

Bezos usually stays out of the public eye, frequently delegating announcements and public Amazon business updates to his executives.

AMI - which is run by David Pecker, a longtime pal of President Trump - has admitted to buying the rights to potentially embarrassing stories about the commander-in-chief in an effort to keep them from seeing the light of day.
