One of the officials says no new meetings have been scheduled. "There's not going to be any bend right here", Trump said.

"What matters to me is that he recognized the Congress of the United States is the first branch of government, that we're a co-equal branch of government and that we are, we represent the people", Pelosi said. "Good solution, and made in the U.S.A".

Mulvaney said negotiations between his staff and congressional Democrats were bogged down in technical requests after the two sides met on Saturday morning.

6 he is considering whether to declare a national emergency in order to obtain funding for the U.S. -Mexico border wall.

"We just can't afford to do business that way", Schiff said.

Flu cases surge: What you need to know to stay healthy
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw away the tissue and wash your hands. People like Gene Hemshrot says he and his wife have gotten the flu shot every year for the past 20.

In an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press", set to air Sunday, Mulvaney argued that the administration was willing to deal. Meanwhile, 51 percent disapproved of congressional Democrats' handling of the shutdown and 33 percent approved. Thom Tillis, R-North Carolina, in an opinion piece in The Hill on Friday called for a compromise on border wall funding that gives a pathway to citizenship for young adults brought to the USA illegally as children, also known as "Dreamers". The Democrats, who think the proposed wall is a waste of money, said the meeting was contentious, though Trump said it was productive.

The White House warned again that the shutdown could last for some time while suggesting that the offer of a steel barrier was an olive branch to Democrats. His administration has already spent millions constructing wall prototypes near the border in San Diego.

The president said that a wall or a barrier must be built along the USA southern border with Mexico, while signaling a willingness to accept a steel barrier instead of a concrete wall by saying that "steel instead of concrete is fine".

He tells reporters as he departs the White House for meetings at Camp David that he'll be asking the companies to design "a lovely steel product" and "we'll use that as our barrier".

Large chunks of the government were shut down on December 22 after politicians and the President hit an impasse over Mr Trump's demands to build a wall.

Pelosi says Democrats will give "nothing for the wall"
The administration has so far rejected the plan, which does not include funding to build a wall along the U.S. -Mexico border. That measure would provide money through the remainder of the fiscal year, to September 30.

When asked about McConnell's refusal to bring House bills to reopen the government to the Senate floor, Collins expressed frustration over the stalemate between President Donald Trump and Democratic leaders that threatens to drag out the shutdown well into its third week.

Showing little empathy for the hundreds of thousands of federal workers furloughed or working without pay, Trump declared - without citing evidence - that most are Democrats. A day earlier, he had tweeted he didn't care that "most of the workers not getting paid are Democrats".

Democrats, led by new Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, consider the wall to be immoral and have declined to approve the $5.6 billion Mr Trump wants as a part of the signature promise of his 2016 presidential campaign.

Trump says he's still mulling declaring a national emergency to try to circumvent Congress.

Trump is demanding that any funding to keep the federal government operational also include US$5.6 billion (S$7.6 billion) to begin building a US$23 billion a wall along the USA border with Mexico.

Bird Box mania and the memes that took over the internet
Let's just say they're having a hard time "suspending their disbelief", as they say in film and literature classes. That seems a little high: Netflix has somewhere north of 137 million subscribers .

"This is a very important battle to win, in terms of safety, number one, defining our country, and who we are", Trump said.
