The comments triggered social media outrage, and prompted Pandya to release a statement apologising for his behaviour, saying he got "carried away by the nature of the show".

It's still the early phase of his cricketing career, but Hardik Pandya has found himself in the middle of a deep puddle following the controversial remarks that he made about women on the famous talk-show, Koffee With Karan.

The BCCI and the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators have directed Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul to immediately return to India without taking part in the ODI series, starting Saturday. Vinod Rai, the CoA chairman, had initially recommended a two-match suspension for the players, while Anirudh Chaudhry, the BCCI treasurer, had called for stricter sanctions.

Appearing on the show, Pandya was asked about how he approached women in nightclubs, to which he replied: "You are just watching and observing how they move".

Indian cricket chiefs on Wednesday said the two players had been given 24 hours to explain themselves, with Pandya already posting an apology on social media.

Noted cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle had urged the BCCI to sensitise young cricketers about 'life beyond the dressing room.' Bhogle's tweet had read, "It is all very well to issue show-cause notices now to KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya".
