Pakistan and NZ ODI decider washed out

Their ODI series against Pakistan has ended in a 1-1 draw, after the third and (supposedly) deciding one-dayer in Dubai was abandoned due to rain.

Paceman Shaheen Afridi (18) and all-rounder Shadab Khan (20) hold vast promise, while Babar Azam and Hasan Ali (both 24) as well as Fakhar Zaman (28) look at their prime. Three wickets in the final over helped Ferguson pick up his first career five-wicket haul, and will have done his future chances with the national side no harm.

A 108-run partnership between the irrepressible Babar Azam and an irresistible Haris Sohail today was at the heart of the domination, but in truth, Pakistan had control all along, with nothing that New Zealand did holding them back for long enough.

Openers Mohammad Hafeez (19) and, in particular, Zaman provided Pakistan with a good start of 64 runs, after Sarfraz Ahmed won the toss and made a decision to bat first.

Zion Williamson Builds on Duke Fear Factor With Monster Block Against Army
Duke returns to Durham to take on the Army Black Knights. "They know more than to think that every game is going to be like that". If he can score 28 points against a top-five team imagine what can happen against teams that are generally less successful.

Both countries have faced each other in 103 completed ODIs with the Kiwis leading the scoreline 54-48, and one game ending in a tie.

Zaman and Mohammad Hafeez (19) put on 64 for the first wicket before Hafeez dislodged a bail with his heel while working Ferguson to long leg, bringing Azam to the crease in the 14th over.

Captain and key batsman Williamson was ruled out with a groin injury which saw Tom Latham given the captaincy and BJ Watling introduced into the middle order. "Whereas, on debut against Australia, Zaman scored 94 and 66 runs in his first two innings".

Colin de Grandhomme, Trent Boult and Matt Henry bagged one wicket each.

Opener Imam-ul-Haq is also included despite being struck on the helmet by a Lockie Ferguson delivery during the second ODI on Friday, scans clearing the opener after he was taken to hospital following the blow.

Henry (1-53) was reasonable while legspinner Ish Sodhi (0-51 off nine) again struggled on the skiddy UAE surfaces and it will be a tight selection race between him, Will Somerville and Ajaz Patel for two spin spots in the three-test series.

As Boult didn't catch it, Ashraf and Asif Ali took their fourth run.
