Cormier defended his title with a clinical win over Lewis.

Daniel Cormier made history at UFC 230 in NY on Saturday as he became the first fighter to successfully defend a title belt in multiple weight classes after he submitted Derrick Lewis in the second round of their title fight, courtesy of a rear naked choke.

Quickly passing his opponent's defense, Cormier took the back and immediately locked up a rear naked choke and within a split second it was clear that Lewis wasn't breaking free.

Daniel Cormier almost withdrew from UFC 230 just hours before he was scheduled to fight Derrick Lewis. "Sometimes I go into the octagon, and I hear in the build-up, 'When is this guy going to get old?' It could happen overnight". Oh boy, look at that! "It's history and Daniel Cormier is one of the best of all-time". Derrick Leiws is fighting for the heavyweight championship of the world.

Much like attacking a bucket of chicken, Cormier tagged Lewis everywhere: leg, thigh, and then the neck for the decisive blow.

Cormier told Brock Lesnar to bring the Universal Title to their fight next year in his post-fight interview. He secured top control on Lewis where he landed short shots to Lewis. He will hold the light heavyweight title only until former foe Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson fight for the title later this year. Ifyou come in here with a puncher's chance, it's not enough.

"It's insane that people say me and Lesnar would be a mega fight when the reality is the mega fight is Jones and I", Cormier told FloCombat.
