After Sessions’ Resignation, Boston Will Join Nationwide Rally for the Mueller Investigation

The mobilization comes after President Donald Trump fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions Wednesday, replacing him with a man who has previously criticized the probe and offered suggestions on how to slow it down.

Mr Whitaker can now assume control of the Mueller inquiry, which has been overseen by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein until now.

The document was released on Twitter by Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, who tweeted that Whitaker "recuse himself immediately". "That's why Cabinet Secretaries have Deputies".

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi called it a "blatant attempt" to undermine the Russian Federation probe, while Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer tweeted that "clearly, the president has something to hide".

That left Rosenstein overseeing the investigation, and he named Mueller as special counsel.

The show was opened by Nicki Minaj with her new hit "Good Form", followed by her collaboration with Little Mix "Woman Like Me". Jackson later posted an image on Instagram from the MTV European Music Awards , expressing her thanks for the award.

Professor Scott Lucas of the University of Birmingham described the situation as "unprecedented" but said the Democrats would likely have a plan in place should Trump make a move on Mueller through the acting attorney general or a future appointment.

Whitaker also worked on Sam Clovis's failed campaign for Iowa state treasurer in 2014 after both of them ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate.

Critics worry that Whitaker may be unlikely or unwilling to defend the Department of Justice's independence against political interference by the White House, given his history of partisanship and loyalty to Trump.

Protesters gathered Thursday in cities from NY to California in a warning to the White House not to derail Robert Mueller's probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 USA presidential election.

Then, to push this into full constitutional crisis mode, Trump asked Jeff Sessions to resign (aka fired him) as Attorney General. Press secretary Sarah Sanders says the reporter's access was suspended because he put "his hands on a young woman".

The switch, announced on Trump's Twitter feed, provoked consternation across Washington, where politicians from both sides of the aisle have long warned that political interference in Mueller's work can not be tolerated. "Trump's attempt to be his own judge and jury is inconsistent with the rule of law and democracy". Sessions and President Trump have had a contentious relationship nearly from the start of the administration, and the attorney general's reluctance to crack down on legal cannabis states could theoretically be attributed, in part, to that dynamic.

Whitaker, who had a stint as a legal commentator for CNN, has been vocal in his criticism of Mueller's investigation and its scope. His style rubbed many the wrong way, and at times Justice Department officials pushed back on his demands.

Sessions, a 71-year-old former Republican senator from Alabama, was the first senator to endorse Trump's insurgent presidential campaign.

Sessions endured most of the name-calling in silence, though he did issue two public statements defending the department, including one in which he said he would serve "with integrity and honor" for as long as he was in the job.

How many people will show up remains to be seen.
