NBA Star Jimmy Butler Requests Trade Away From Minnesota Timberwolves

Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star shooting guard Jimmy Butler formally requested a trade Wednesday - and that set off a series of events that eventually involved former National Basketball Association player Stephen Jackson, Minnesota small forward Andrew Wiggins and Andrew's brother Nick Wiggins. Wiggins remains signed with the Timberwolves through 2023. Andrew Wiggins' brother, Nick Wiggins, tweeted "Hallejulah" in response to Charania's tweet reporting Butler wanted to be moved. But those reports are unsubstantiated, even with Irving due to become a free agent in the summer of 2019.

But while Butler has decided he doesn't want to be in Minnesota, telling the Timberwolves this now has - at least for now - limited his options.

But still, plenty of players get traded to teams that aren't on their "list".

T-Wolves is going to have to trade Jimmy Butler, there is no way they can let him be at their media day. His three preferred destinations are the Brooklyn Nets, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the New York Knicks, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

If Butler is traded now, he could sign a five-year, maximum contract that could be worth $190 million with the team he lands with.

Butler joined Minnesota in a trade with the Chicago Bulls in June 2017. While there is risk involved in placing a big bet on someone who has played as many minutes as Butler has, this is a genuine superstar who could help the team turn the page from culture-building to real competitiveness. Butler might have slept with Karl-Anthony Towns' girlfriend and he has called out Wiggins.

With that as the backdrop, the good folks at already have odds on the board as to where Butler will be when the 2018-19 season begins and that means a good, old-fashioned wagering opportunity. Now he also must balance the possibility of Butler leaving, and how the franchise should best handle that.

Butler's impact on the Wolves was easy to see last season.

Those questions won't stop until the season ends - or until the Timberwolves answer them with actions.
