Croatia captain Luka Modrić has capped off an unbelievable year by winning The Best FIFA Men's Player for 2018 at a ceremony in London on Monday night.

The Real Madrid and Croatia star took the prize ahead of Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah in London, but the Juventus forward and Messi skipped Monday's awards ceremony.

Modric beat off competition from Egypt and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and his former teammate and Portuguese captain Cristiano Ronaldo.

Salah hinted that he was surprised that he has won the Puskas Award.

Many assumed Gareth Bale would walk away with the award after his stunning overhead kick for Real Madrid against Liverpool, arguably the greatest goal in Champions League history. "So many people have come together and so many have supported me", said Modric.
