The search giant said Wednesday that it would "say goodbye" to Inbox at the end of March 2019. Inbox won't be shuttered immediately, with a transitional period until March 2019. Numerous features we know and love from Inbox were brought into Gmail proper when they launched a much needed re-design back in April this year.

One Inbox by Gmail feature that still hasn't made its way over to the standard Gmail service is the email bundling. Inbox marked a clear departure from the aging design of Gmail, and focused on a mobile-first experience. After that, you're free to delete the Gmail Offline Chrome app and then continue forward using only Gmail for web.

Google, however, did not exactly reveal why it is shutting down the Inbox app. Google Gmail product manager Matthew Izatt announced this in a blog post.

A "lighter" version of Gmail, Inbox app has some features that are not available on Gmail. Recently, Google updated its Gmail app with some new features. This merging of features led to uncertainty about the future of Inbox, and ultimately, to its demise.

What do you think about Google killing support for Inbox? Back in the day, the Gmail app or desktop experience would come with limited options, making Inbox by Gmail a platform to create/expand on ideas.

We introduced the new Gmail in April this year, incorporating numerous same features you've come to love about Inbox plus newer features like Smart Compose, which helps you draft emails faster.
