Trump, who had hoped Kavanaugh would be sworn in by the time the Supreme Court opens its term Monday, said he was ordering the FBI to conduct what he called a "supplemental" investigation that he said "must be limited in scope and completed in less than a week".

"We can confirm the FBI has reached out to interview Ms. Ramirez and she has agreed to cooperate with their investigation", Clune said in a tweet. Kavanaugh has denied the allegations. Jeff Flake of Arizona called for a one-week delay to the Senate floor vote on the nomination so that the agency could investigate Ford's allegations.

On Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee heard explosive testimonies from Kavanaugh and Ford.

Ramirez alleges that Kavanaugh exposed his penis to her during a drunken party at a Yale University dormitory when they were undergraduates.

On Saturday, NBC News reported that the White House had constrained the FBI investigation by limiting its parameters. She said Kavanaugh and Judge were "extremely inebriated. and the other people at the party were not".

Michael Avenatti, the attorney for a third Kavanaugh accuser, Julie Swetnick, said in an email to Reuters that his client has not been contacted by investigators.

"A thorough FBI investigation is critical to developing all the relevant facts", Debra Katz, Ford's attorney, said in a statement.

Separately on Saturday, Whitehouse, a Democrat, said he expects the FBI would provide adequate staffing for Kavanaugh's background investigation, with teams working in parallel to investigate separate allegations.

The panel's Republican senators, all men, did not question her, assigning that task to Rachel Mitchell, a sex crimes prosecutor. Some of these Democrats have indicated that they're still undecided on Kavanaugh. "Judge, judge, don't give up", he said.

Testifying after Ford, Kavanaugh denied ever attacking her in an emotional rebuttal.

McConnell also strongly warned Trump against firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein following reports that Rosenstein had discussed possibly secretly recording the president and using the Constitution's 25th Amendment to remove him from office, telling him it could lead to "a bloodbath", according to the Republicans familiar with the conversations. "Very professional. I'm sure it will all be very good", said the President.

"I never did anything remotely resembling what Dr. Ford describes", he said. Rosenstein wasn't fired. Trump didn't lash out at Sen.

Flake was supported by two other Republican moderates, Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins, both of whom have not announced whether they would support Kavanaugh. And Trump signed a bill to fund the government and avoid a federal shutdown without "making a stink" about extra money for his border wall with Mexico.
