Throughout the nearly two-day sentencing, the prosecution reiterated Cosby's crimes and what they call his "predatory" nature: "He violated Ms. Constand's trust, which, unbeknownst to her, he spent time and energy cultivating with the specific intent of having sexual contact with her". Cosby initially faced up to 10 years for each count, but attorneys on both sides agreed to merge the three counts, CNN reported.

The punishment came at the end of a two-day hearing, during which the judge declared Cosby a "sexually violent predator". "The day has come, the time has come".

The statement accused prosecutors of relying on an audio recording of a 2005 conversation between Bill Cosby and Gianna Constand, the mother of Andrea Constand, which the defence contends was doctored to exclude information that could have exonerated Cosby.

Unsealed depositions from that civil court case, which included Cosby's confession to purchasing Quaaludes to drug women with, helped to open the criminal investigation which eventually led to Cosby's conviction this year.

Another Cosby accuser in the courtroom, Lili Bernard, said, "Maybe this will send a message to other powerful perpetrators that they will be caught and punished". "He's not sorry? He's not sorry at all?" said Kathy Mckee, one of Cosby's accusers in response to the sentence on CNN.

Cosby had been convicted in an April retrial.

EPL: Liverpool won't win title this season - David Moyes
Much like in their opening-day win at Newcastle, Tottenham could have conceded more goals than Anthony Knockaert's late strike. It was Arsenal's first clean sheet of the season and showed Cech won't surrender his berth without a fight.

The judge seemingly agreed, sentencing Cosby to "total confinement", and earlier during the proceedings, declaring him to be a "sexually violent predator," meaning Cobsy must undergo monthly counseling for the rest of his life, and also register as a sex offender.

Constand's case was the only one that was within the statute of limitations. The publicly available registry lets neighbors and schools search for sexually violent people in their area.

In a statement submitted to the court and released Tuesday, Constand, now 45, that she has had to cope with years of anxiety and self-doubt. Cosby, 81, once considered to be "America's Dad", had no witnesses testify in his defense today.

Judge O'Neill also made a decision to designate Cosby a "sexually violent predator" under Pennsylvania law.

Cosby was found guilty in April of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand, a former women's basketball coach at Temple University in Philadelphia.

"I put a high degree of weight on the impact of the victim and her family", O'Neill said.

In a two paragraph statement given to KDKA-TV News, CMU said it has a long and unwavering commitment and it will not tolerate sexual violence of any kind.

Five other accusers took the stand at the trial as part of an effort by prosecutors to portray him as a predator.

Actor and comedian Bill Cosby arrives at the Montgomery County Courthouse for sentencing in his sexual assault trial in Norristown, Pennsylvania, US, September 25, 2018. His defense requested that he be able to serve his term on house arrest instead of prison, considering he's old and blind and a celebrity, but the judge said, in so many words: Hell no. Prison for you.

The judge said that Cosby "could quite possibly be a danger to the community".

O'Neill said he would not hold it against Cosby that he didn't speak or testify.

"I am glad that Bill Cosby was convicted".
