Trump is open to visiting Putin in Moscow, White House says

A CNN correspondent says she was barred from attending an open press event at the White House because of questions she asked the president earlier in the day.

The Republican leaders appear to be increasingly relying on public signals, rather than private phone calls or Oval Office chats, to catch the White House's attention and communicate with Trump - especially when they are at odds with the president's approach or policies.

After the Helsinki summit, Trump was criticized at home for failing to publicly confront Putin over Moscow's meddling in the 2016 presidential election, and for seeming to contradict his own intelligence agencies on the threat from Russian Federation.

Earlier this week, Trump postponed a Washington meeting between the two leaders until next year, citing political fallout over Special Counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing and still fruitless "Russiagate" investigation.

Reporter Kaitlan Collins said press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and communications director Bill Shine told her she was banned from a late-afternoon announcement in the Rose Garden involving Trump and European Union president Jean-Claude Juncker a few hours after she sought to question Trump during a press-pool "spray" in the Oval Office.

However, he said the conditions need to be right for meeting to happen.

Following the backlash in the United States over Trump's cordial public tone with Putin at the Helsinki summit, USA and Russian officials backed away from a proposal to schedule a follow-up summit in Washington. He has a desire to have further meetings, to hold further meetings.

Veselnitskaya had said she was offering information about rival Hillary Clinton from the Russian government aimed at helping Trump to victory.

She expressed interest in talking to Jarrett, or perhaps working out a way to find a "teachable moment" in an encounter with her. During her conversation with Sean Hannity , the comedienne reasserted her view that her tweet was about politics, not race.

Since Helsinki, Trump has tried to walk back at least some of his comments.

On Friday afternoon, Trump will convene a National Security Council meeting devoted to the issue of election security.

Mr Putin did not detail what "conditions" would have to be met. No policy changes came out of the summit, Mattis said on Friday, adding he had also not been given new direction on Syria.

He did not clarify if that was a face-to-face invitation to be followed by a formal one.
