Nawaz Sharif Forced To Use "Dirty" Washroom In Jail, Claims Brother

So far no party leader or worker visited them except legal team members to consult and get signatures on the papers to file appeal in the Islamabad High Court which are expected to be filed on Monday.

Sharif, 68, and his daughter Maryam, 44, were arrested in Lahore on July 13 on their arrival from London after an accountability court found them guilty over his family's ownership of four luxury flats in London.

Sharif is expected to be whisked away by helicopter to the federal capital of Islamabad when he returns to Pakistan from London to face a 10-year prison sentence for corruption.

The NAB on Friday night took Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz into custody in connection to the Avenfield reference case after their flight landed at Lahore's Allama Iqbal International Airport at 8:48 p.m.

Pakistan's military remains its most powerful institution, and has faced blistering allegations that it is pressuring the media and politicians in a bid to manipulate the polls against the PML-N.

They include former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who replaced Sharif past year and served until June, when the caretaker government took over.

Nawaz Sharif and Maryam were served with a legal warrant as soon as they enter Pakistan's airspace.

Nawaz and his sons are accused in all three graft references whereas Maryam Nawaz and Safdar were accused in the Avenfield reference only.

Earlier this year a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan banned Mr Sharif for participating in politics or holding any political office for life.

Scores of party activists faithful to the ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif were arrested in night raids ahead of his return to Pakistan and a showdown with the country's security officials and judiciary.

Mr Sharif has alleged the military is pushing a "judicial witch hunt" against him and his party. The Saad Hashmi-led legal team went to Sharif to get the power of attorney signed so that an appeal could be filed in the Islamabad High Court, they added.

Nawaz Sharif decried the tactics ordered by the caretaker government that took over in June ahead of the general election, as Pakistan's constitution requires.

Speaking to the BBC at Abu Dhabi airport as he waited to change planes, Sharif said: "What credibility will these elections have when the government is taking such drastic action against our people and this crackdown is taking place all over the country?"

"Nawaz really believes this is about democracy and his legacy", Musadik Malik, Sharif ally and former PML-N cabinet minister, told Reuters.
