Mesut Ozil to have 'big season', predicts Unai Emery

Ozil announced his global retirement on Sunday, weeks after Germany's first-round World Cup exit.

Ozil quit the Germany national team this week following the fallout of his pre-World Cup meeting with President Erdogan of Turkey. Ozil was born in Germany to a Turkish family.

Germany´s football federation swiftly denied the allegation of racism, while Erdogan called Ozil to praise his decision - which follows a resurgence of the German far right. So, how will Germany's and Europe's multicultural societies deal with this issue? "We are going to help him to feel good", Emery added.

Emery says he has not yet spoken to Ozil about his decision, which was explained across several lengthy statements on Twitter.
