Memphis great-grandmother Alice Marie Johnson talked with Local Memphis for the first time since she walked away from a life sentence, thanks to President Donald Trump and Kim Kardashian West.

On Wednesday, President Trump signed her commutation and she was released from prison for the first time in over 20 years, reuniting with her family. On Wednesday, West got to deliver the news to Johnson that she would be freed.

After Johnson was released from prison, Trump tweeted that he hopes she has "a wonderful life". "This is not a publicity thing for her. Kim told me when she left that White House meeting that no matter how this turns out she would never stop fighting for me until I come home".

"I think that she really deserves a second chance at life", she told the website.

The president commuted her sentence, a move the Justice Department had resisted under President Obama.

NASA’s Mars Rover Has Found Organic Matter On The Planet's Surface
The Viking Project was the first USA mission to safely land spacecraft on the Martian surface, as well as send back images. For the first time, scientists say they have clear evidence that the chemical building blocks of life exist on Mars.

"The presidential pardon holds a special resonance for Trump, representing one area where he has nearly unchecked power as other aspects of his presidency... remain outside his control", The Post says.

Johnson's daughter, Catina Scales, who appeared with her on "New Day", also thanked Kardashian West for her help in obtaining her mother's commutation.

Johnson was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, and appellate courts and the U.S. Supreme Court had denied her appeals. "It was the most exhilarating feeling I've ever had, Michael".

The White House said Alice Johnson had been a model prisoner and worked hard to rehabilitate herself.

She said both parents died while she was in prison.

Trump Slammed Canada for Burning Down the White House. It Didn't, Really
The 1812 reference may prove the bizarreness of the entire argument, but it also points to a more troubling, historical lesson. The problem with Trump's comments to Trudeau is that British troops burned down the White House during the War of 1812 .
