Five killed after US Border Patrol auto chase in Texas

Five people died and several were injured Sunday after a speeding SUV carrying unauthorized immigrants lost control during a chase in South Texas.

This article be updated as more details become available. One person died upon arriving at the hospital, he said.

It was unclear why law enforcement began chasing the vehicle, though KABB quoted Dimmit County Sheriff Marion Boyd saying it was the result of "good police work".

He said there were 14 people in the vehicle.

The driver is now in custody with Homeland Security Investigations, a division of the Department of Homeland Security, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
