Powerful storms kill at least 40 across northern India

The latest spell of thunderstorms, rains and lightning came almost two weeks after 134 people killed and over 400 injured in UP, Rajasthan, Telangana, Utttarakhand and Punjab states on May 2-3. Worldwide flights from Kathmandu, Riyadh, Colombo, Jeddah, Kabul were delayed while flights from Tokyo, Newark and Colombo were diverted to other places, the sources told PTI, adding that some 10 global flights were diverted to Lucknow after the ATC at the IGI airport refused permission to land.

The Delhi police received 189 phone calls reporting fallen trees.

The dust storm which played havoc in Sunday in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi have atleast killed 53 people in the country.

At least 41 people were killed after dust and thunderstorms swept through parts of West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi-NCR on Sunday evening.

18 people were reportedly killed in Uttar Pradesh. While, at least 10 huts caught fire due to lightning in Sanota village in Bulandshahr.

Reports pouring in from Uttar Pradesh said almost 100 houses were gutted in a fire which broke out due to lightning in Sambhal. No reports of causalities or injuries have been reported so far. The Chief Minister assured all possible help to the people affected by storm in the state.
