Maryland Democratic gubernatorial candidate dies suddenly

Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz - a Democratic candidate for governor and a fixture in state politics for almost a quarter century - died Thursday morning of cardiac arrest, officials said.

"He was a dedicated public servant in Baltimore County for more than two decades, and we join with the citizens of Baltimore County and all Marylanders in mourning".

Kamenetz was the youngest of five children, a Johns Hopkins graduate who went on to study law at University of Baltimore School of Law.
