Jason Seaman, Teacher Shot 3 Times Protecting Students, Issues Statement From Hospital

The ex-college football player-turned-high school teacher who player hero during a school shooting Friday in IN has been released from the hospital.

"It's not surprising, to be honest", Jason Seaman said of his brother's heroics. Brooks said she had "just met" Seaman.

Officers from the Noblesville police department, Hamilton County Sheriff's office, Indiana State police, and other local officers responded to a call of an active shooter at Noblesville West Middle School at 9:06 AM.

Seaman was shot inside a classroom at the school after a male student asked to be excused and returned with two handguns.

He hurled the ball at the shooter to try to limit the carnage, and then ran "right at [him] and tackled him to the ground", said Stonebraker, 13.

Seaman was hit three times - once through the hip, once through the forearm and once through the abdomen, according to a Facebook post by his mother, Kristin Hubly Seaman.

Brooks praised Seaman as well as the many other heroes who kept the shooting from being worse; one other person, student Ella Whistler, was shot. He was released from hospital Saturday afternoon.

An eighth-grader said he counted 16 gunshots inside the middle school during the shooting. Parents said that he intervened to try to stop the suspect.

"Something needs to change, and I think it starts with doing daily searches" at schools, parent Somorah Landis told Indianapolis TV station WISH.

He suited up for Southern Illinois from 2007-2010 before becoming a teacher.

Seaman's actions came "as no surprise to...those who know Jason", the school district Seaman attended in IL said in a statement to WISH.

Seaman's students said he stopped the shooter from injuring more people by tackling the gunman and swatting away the gun.

His brother Jeremy Seaman tells The Indianapolis Star that his brother was conscious after the shooting and talked with his wife, telling her he was OK. The middle school has about 1,300 students from grades 6-8.
