George HW Bush in hospital with blood infection

Former President George H.W. Bush is recovering at a Texas hospital after contracting an infection that spread to his blood, his spokesman said in a statement he posted on Twitter late Monday.

Tuesday a family spokesperson says the President has since stabilized and is awake, alert and talking.

The two were married 73 years, longer than any other US presidential couple.

In February 2011, Obama awarded Bush the highest USA civilian honor, the Medal of Freedom.
